A1 Assessor Award (Level 3 OCR)

In order to become an assessor for national vocational qualifications (NVQ) you must achieve the Level 3 Award in Assessing Candidates on a range of methods (also referred to as the A1 award). The Environmental Academy has many experienced assessors that deliver the A1 award.

The A1 award is applicable to all NVQs - if you plan to assess any NVQ from any sector, The Environmental Academy can help you through the A1 award.

Entry Requirements:

You must hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in the areas in which you are to be an assessor. You must have access to students on NVQ programmes - if you do not the Environmental Academy may be able to provide students at an extra cost.

Learning Methods:

You will be invited to 1 half day workshop followed by 4 half day work place visits with your assessor.

Assessment Methods:

You will be assessed through observation of your work as an assessor or verifier, workplace visits and a portfolio of evidence.

Please Note:

We can only offer the A1 and V1 to environmental professionals - see details below:

• You must be able to attend a half day introductory workshop at our office in the North East of England.
• You must check the occupational competencies for the NVQ that you intend to assess against.  (e.g. if you want to assess learners against the ILM (Level 4) Environmental Management NVQ you should check the qualification information sheet for occupational competencies which states that you must have a least 2 years experience working as an Environmental Management professional and hold a degree level qualification or higher in a related discipline)
• You must have access to two learners who are currently working towards the qualification that you wish to eventually assess (e.g. ILM (Level 4) Environmental Management NVQ.  We may be able to help by arranging for you to assess work produced by some of our learners enrolled on this qualification.)
• You must assess both learners work against the NVQ standard which must be countersigned and verified by a qualified NVQ Assessor.  Therefore you must assess and sign off as complete 4 units in total (2 of each learner).
• The Environmental Academy can offer 4 half day work place visits with you to countersign this work.
